Kris Canekeratne co-founded Virtusa in 1996 based on his core belief that software development practices could and should embrace the same efficiencies achieved by mature industries such as automotive and manufacturing. Kris oversees Virtusa's strategic direction and all day-to-day operations. His stewardship has been the driving force behind one of the fastest growing software services firms in the US with ten years of consecutive growth.

Kris has had an inspiring track record of creating and growing highly successful business ventures including edocs, a leading provider of electronic account management and customer care; and INSCI Corporation.
A graduate of Syracuse University with a BS in Computer Science, Kris lives in Westborough, MA with his wife and two sons.

Q. Virtusa has travelled a long way, seen the ups and downs of dotcom burst and the current recession. How has the journey been? How has the company adapted to difficult periods?
A. Over the years, we have adapted very well and have experienced good solid growth.  Our unique platforming approach has differentiated us from our peers and has delivered demonstrable benefits to our clients.  We have a solid foundation and terrific fundamentals that have enabled us to grow and scale our business both during good and difficult economic periods. Much of this is directly attributable to our talented team members and their focus on service excellence and client delight.

Q. How do you see the IT industry evolving, post the downturn?
A. Post downturn we will see clients expanding with global IT service providers, especially with those that focus on business outcomes and improving IT efficiencies.  Whether it’s onboarding a new customer or introducing a new product or improving their customers’ experience, clients will ask their global IT services providers to do more than provide raw labor.

Q. Please elaborate on the company’s focus areas, services and industry verticals of operation? 
A. Our primary focus is to improve our clients’ IT efficiencies by rationalizing, consolidating and modernizing their core systems.  Over the course of many years of M&A and disparate IT spend enterprises have accumulated a vast portfolio of application technology.  This portfolio contains redundant applications, complex data storage schemas and legacy business rules and processes.  Our focus is to help reduce redundancy, harvest best-in-class sub-systems, and modernize the application infrastructures to create a more efficient IT environment. 
We serve the technology needs of customers from different industry verticals including Banking and Financial Services, Insurance, Media, Entertainment, Telco and Life Sciences. 
Our technology focus areas cover Business Process Management, Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence, and Enterprise Content Management.

 BPM is a technology that enables us to bring huge value to our clients.  Cloud computing and SaaS are also very exciting.  As a trend, open source has tremendous promise.
